Walnut

The S-35W

Following in the footsteps of the all mahogany S-35M, I was curious to see if there were other hardwoods that might offer something a little different to the traditional soundboard wood choices. The very first ’S’ model I ever made used walnut for the back and sides so I liked the idea of revisiting this original idea all these years later.
Walnut is a fantastic tone wood known for having a very clear, bright character that offers good note separation. Using a hardwood like walnut makes for a stiffer soundboard which when carefully voiced, offers a warmth and punchiness to compliment those already present traditional walnut characteristics.
